The Dublin Legends
The Dublin Legends are an Irish celtic and folk group formed in 2013 after the retirement of The Dubliners name in late 2012. The project begins with remaining members of that line-up and guest musicians, and it exists to continue the legacy associated with The Dubliners.
Formation and line-up
The group forms after John Sheahan departs and The Dubliners retire officially. The original line-up includes Seán Cannon, Eamonn Campbell, Patsy Watchorn and guest musician Gerry O'Connor. In the verified membership, Eamonn Campbell and Gerry O’Connor are part of the group. Paul Kelly stands in for Gerry O'Connor when he tours with Joe Bonamassa, and Patsy Watchorn later takes a break from touring, with his brother Paul Watchorn replacing him. Eamonn Campbell dies in 2017.
Releases and activity
The Dublin Legends release their first live album, An Evening With The Dublin Legends: Live In Vienna, in 2014. It contains 18 songs recorded in September 2013 at the Metropol in Vienna. The band also plans a UK tour in early 2013, but it is rescheduled to June after Eamonn Campbell has an operation. In November 2013, Gerry O'Connor tours the United States with Joe Bonamassa, leading to substitute appearances in Germany.
Purpose
The Dublin Legends continue as a live folk act connected to the repertory and performance tradition of The Dubliners.
