The Deluge

The Deluge are a US instrumental progressive rock group that forms in 2005. The line-up includes Andrew McKee on guitar, Matthew O’Rane on viola, Grant Jordan on drums, and Shane Jordan. Their music draws on progressive rock, jazz, world, classical and electronic elements, and is also tagged as prog rock and jazz rock/fusion.

History

The group starts as a trio in 2005, with McKee, O’Rane and Grant Jordan as the founding members. Its debut self-titled EP appears in 2007 and receives positive reviews, with modest success. In support of that release, the band plays as a trio across California, including jazz clubs, rock and pop festivals, and college campuses.

The Deluge receive local recognition when they win Best Instrumental Act in 2008 from Inland Empire Weekly. By the end of that year, the band decides the first release has reached its limit and begins work on a new album. 2009 is devoted to developing that material.

Releases

The group’s first full-length album, Inverted Earth, is a concept album that relocates the Biblical flood story to a modern setting. The band also adds extra live musicians to broaden and re-create the album material in performance.

Live activity

The Deluge continue performing in support of the album and expand their live sound beyond the original trio format. The group remains active in the United States.
