The Deep

The Deep is a French deep house duo made up of Cyril Etienne des Rosaies and Julien Jabre. It performs as a group and is based in France.

The name is also associated with several other acts, including a short-lived American rock and roll band from Philadelphia in the mid-1960s, a South Korean solo musician known professionally as The Deep, and a death metal band from Boise, Idaho. In a separate production context, the name is used by the deep house duo Julien Jabre and DJ Deep.

The Philadelphia group is known for its sole album, The Psychedelic Moods of The Deep, which is linked with early use of the word “psychedelic” in an album title. That band does not tour and appears to have worked mainly as a studio project. Its follow-up in all but name is Psychedelic Psoul, credited to The Freak Scene after Rusty Evans leaves Cameo-Parkway for Columbia Records.

The Boise death metal version forms in 2005 and includes Sean Taylor and Ben Torres on guitar, Shawn Priest on drums, Eric Playstead on bass, and Nick Brooks on vocals. It releases a self-titled EP in 2007.

The South Korean artist Park Yoo-jin, known as The Deep, previously performs in the duo Morethan7 and starts solo work with the single “Marionette” in 2019, initially working in lofi and R&B before moving towards dance and electronic music.
