The Dear Hunter
The Dear Hunter is a progressive rock band from Providence, United States. It begins as a side project for Casey Crescenzo while he is a member of The Receiving End of Sirens, and it becomes his main band in 2006. The group is active from 2005 to the present and is associated with The Dear Hunter LLC.
The band’s line-up includes Nick Crescenzo, Luke Dent, Sam Dent, Erick Serna, Joshua Scott Rheault, Sagan Jacobson, Andy Wildrick, Nate Patterson, Connor Doyle, Max Tousseau, Rob Parr, Nick Sollecito, Andrew Brown, Gavin Castleton and Casey Crescenzo.
Style and concept albums
The Dear Hunter works across progressive rock, alternative rock, experimental, indie rock, crossover prog and progressive styles. Its music uses a wide range of instruments and draws on several different approaches. Many of its albums form part of a connected storyline, beginning with the 2006 debut Act I: The Lake South, the River North and continuing through to Act V: Hymns with the Devil in Confessional in 2016. The projected sequence is intended to conclude with a sixth album.
Other releases
Alongside the Acts series, the band releases a number of standalone records. These include The Color Spectrum in 2011, Migrant in 2013, the EP All Is As All Should Be in 2017, and Antimai in 2022.
Origins
The project begins with the Dear Ms. Leading demos, recorded by Crescenzo in winter 2005. He makes 10 burned-CD copies for friends and shares them online. Material and characters from those demos later reappear in the Acts series, although the storyline changes from a personal starting point toward a more fictional framework.
