The Dead 60s are a Liverpool band active from 2003 to 2008. The group consists of Matt McManamon on vocals and guitar, Ben Gordon on guitar and organ, Charlie Turner on bass guitar, and Bryan Johnson on drums.

Style and influences

The band’s sound combines ska, ska punk, dub and punk rock, with indie and alternative elements. Their music is described as mixing punk energy with strong melodies and reggae-style bass lines. They are compared with The Clash and The Specials, and their influences include King Tubby.

Background and releases

The Dead 60s take their name from a Liverpool phrase, “Dead 60s sounding,” and use it as a response to the city’s usual pop image. Their debut album appears in 2005, with releases in the United States, Japan and the United Kingdom across that year. Their second album, Time To Take Sides, is recorded in New York in early 2007 with producer David Kahn, who also works with The Strokes and Regina Spektor.

The band ends in early 2008, saying that they feel the group has run its course.
