The Dawnriders
The Dawnriders are a band formed in winter 2009 by Danny Teale and Danny Louch. Their first song, “Westenra,” is described as a dark, atmospheric ballad, and the group develops from that early material into a larger line-up built around friends and former bandmates.
Formation and line-up
By spring 2009, Joe Leach joins on keyboards, organ and piano. The rhythm section is completed by brothers Matthew Troth on bass and Kieran Troth on drums. The band’s members work collectively on the songs, with each contributing to the direction and sound.
Style and themes
The Dawnriders draw on literature, storytellers and personal experience for their lyrics. Their songs include “The Virgin and the Creep,” which tells of forbidden medieval romance, “Nightcrawling,” which deals with nights of revelry, and “Gold Rush,” a metaphorical tale of greed and self-destruction. The group’s early material is framed around sombre, atmospheric songwriting.
Releases
The band is due to release a debut EP in 2011.
