The Cut

The Cut is a Norwegian new wave group from Oslo, active from 1980 to 1984. The band has a place in the early 1980s Norwegian and German scenes, and is best known for the German-language cover version “In Dieser Stadt”.

Style and background

The Cut’s work sits in new wave and related synth-based post-punk styles, including synthpop and minimal wave. The group records and performs in the early 1980s, and its activity is centred on Norway, with some success in Germany as well.

Membership

The band’s members include Rune Annaniassen, Volker Zibell and Kikkan Fossum. Other musicians associated with the group include Don Buchanan, Torgrim Eggen, Atle Gundersen, Arne Lund, Ivar Eidem, Anders Sevaldson and Gøran Andersson. HC “Kikkan” Fossum plays keyboards, and Volker Zibell is listed on vocals. The group also works with producers John Leckie, Claes Neeb and the band itself.

Recordings

The Cut releases the albums Shadow Talks and Silent Movies. Its singles and EPs include Four Cuts - Fresh and Bleeding, In Dieser Stadt c/w Ships, In Dieser Stadt c/w The Crowd, I Wish It Was Simple c/w Success, Dance on Glass and Business Class Dance S.P.Y.
