The Coal Porters

The Coal Porters are an alt-bluegrass group formed in 1989 by Sid Griffin after his time with the Long Ryders. Griffin is inspired by producing Lindisfarne to move from electric music to acoustic music, and the group is set up to rework older themes and melodies in a bluegrass style for a contemporary setting.

The group is based in Los Angeles and the United Kingdom. Its members include Sid Griffin, Kerenza Peacock and Ian Thompson. Their sound is rooted in bluegrass, with alt-country and americana associations in wider descriptions of the band.
