The Circles

The Circles are a Wolverhampton mod band that form in mid-1979. They emerge from the West Midlands mod revival scene and record as a group act built around Glenn Tranter, with Mick Waller also part of the line-up; Waller has previously played in Injectors and Neon Hearts.

Early releases

The band issues a demo tape and gains a local deal with Graduate, who release their debut single, “Opening Up”. Both sides of the record are group compositions. The single reaches No. 15 in the indie charts and is later picked up for reissue by Chrysalis in early 1980.

Later singles and split

In 1980, The Circles move to Vertigo for “Angry Voices”. The group then split after a UK tour in September 1980. In 1985, Graduate releases “Circles”, a recording that dates from 1979.
