The Chimes

The Chimes are a Scottish dance trio from Edinburgh, active from 1989 and made up of vocalist Pauline Henry, Mike Peden and James Locke. They work in classic pop and rock, with a sound associated with late-1980s and early-1990s dance music, soul and acid jazz.

Career

The group is best known for the singles “Heaven” and “I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For”, a cover of the U2 song that becomes a UK Top Ten hit. In the United States, “1-2-3” reaches number 86 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1990, spends two weeks at number one on the Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart, and is followed by “Heaven”, which also reaches number one on the dance chart.

Their version of “I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For” draws a notable response from Bono, who praises the cover and says it does justice to the original.
