The Chancers

The Chancers are a Czech two-tone and ska punk group formed in the summer of 1998. They begin as a one-off concert project by a group of like-minded musicians, but continue as a working band after that first performance. Their line-up changes considerably over time.

Live work and touring

The band plays across Czechia and in Slovakia, Germany, France, Switzerland, Croatia, Austria and Hungary. Their shows focus on an energetic ska approach and include appearances at a wide range of venues and festivals. They play support slots with acts such as The Selecter, Skunk, Spunge, The Hotknives and The Blaster Master. They also perform at Sziget festival in Budapest.

Recordings and releases

On record, The Chancers follow their Tuffer Than Tomorrow EP with the full-length album Rudeboy Polka, issued on their own label. That album receives favourable coverage from publications including Rolling Stone, Show!, Big Beng and Rock and Pop, as well as ska fanzines in Europe and North America. Their later release Teach the Rich is a four-track recording.

Collaborations and recognition

The band works with Czech remixers Nana Zorin and DJ Wich on a release, extending their sound beyond straightforward ska arrangements. Their profile is also raised by television coverage on Czech Television and regular airplay on national and local radio. They are presented as the top ska band in the Czech Republic.
