The Cave Singers
The Cave Singers are a Seattle-based US indie folk band formed in 2007. The trio consists of Derek Fudesco, Marty Lund and Peter Quirk, and they perform as a folk rock group with indie folk and Americana elements. Their line-up includes Quirk on vocals, guitar, melodica and harmonica, Fudesco on guitar and bass pedals, and Lund on drums and guitar.
History
The group forms after the disbandment of Pretty Girls Make Graves in 2007, when Derek Fudesco joins with Pete Quirk of Hint Hint and Marty Lund of Cobra High in the Seattle area. They sign to Matador Records in June 2007 and record in Vancouver with engineer Colin Stewart, who produces their first full-length release. The band remains active from 2007 onward.
Releases
Before their debut album, the band issues the limited 7-inch single Seeds Of Night, with the B-side After The First Baptism. Their first album, Invitation Songs, follows in 2007 and receives critical acclaim. The album includes the single Dancing On Our Graves, released in 2008. Their second album, Welcome Joy, appears in 2009 and features guest appearances by Amber and Ashley Webber of Lightning Dust. In 2011 they release No Witch.
Style and collaboration
Their music is described as sparse and harmonious, with a sound built around folk songwriting. The group’s catalogue appears on Matador, and the label also makes the track Beach House available as a free download during the Welcome Joy period.
