The Candies

The Candies are an Italian band that forms in 2006 in Gandaria, Jakarta. The group plays ska and describes its sound as experimental, with songs shaped by Jamaican-influenced tunes. It is based around Iman Hilman, Ario Nugroho, Aldi Syahreza, Abraham Hamzah and Prio Wibowo, with each member identified by a role: Iman Hilman on vocals, Ario Nugroho on guitar, Aldi Syahreza on vocals and rhythm, Abraham Hamzah on bass, and Prio Wibowo on drums.

The band’s song Family Tree appears as a single on the compilation V/A Return of the Rootbois, issued by Revival Records and Paviliun Records. The Candies are also preparing their first album and LP, with mixing, dubbing and toasting work noted as part of that process.

The group uses the name Permen Manis in its web presence, including Myspace and Facebook pages. Its name and presentation are associated with Jakarta’s independent music scene, and the band’s stated aim is to produce music through experimental approaches and Jamaican-rooted influences.
