The Bus Station Loonies
The Bus Station Loonies are an anarcho-punk band from Plymouth that forms in 1995. The group describes itself as cabaret punk and is associated with punk rock, with a sound that is compared to Dead Kennedys, the Undertones and the Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band. The band aims to bring humour into the anarcho-punk scene.
Line-up and members
The band includes Ad Nauseum, Johnny Hectic, Steve McPoundpants, Chris "The Machine" Mildren, Nufty D. Tufty, Sean O'Porno, Tony Popkids, Chris Willsher and Prof. Paul Perfectlyformed. Tony Popkids is an original member and plays drums. Chris Wheelchair is also an original member and contributes vocals, keyboards and kazoo; he is a former drummer with Oi Polloi, Disorder, Riot/Clone and DIRT, among others. The group has recruited around 30 other members over time.
Record-setting activity and media
The Bus Station Loonies feature in the Channel 4 documentary Punx Picnic. They set a world record for the most concerts performed in 12 hours, playing 25 different shows on 29 September 2001 in and around Plymouth, Devon. The event raises money for musical equipment for pupils at Dame Hannah Rogers school in Ivybridge, Devon. The record appears in the Guinness Book of World Records until it is beaten in 2006.
