The Bollweevils
The Bollweevils are a punk band from Chicago, United States, active from 1989 to the present. The group forms during the era of Naked Raygun, and its members meet through that scene; they also later open for Naked Raygun. The band’s line-up includes Daryl Wilson on vocals, Bob Skwerski on bass, Ken Fitzner on guitar, and Brian Czarnik on drums, later replaced by Brett Friesen. Czarnik also plays in Oblivion, while Friesen also plays in Houseboy.
Releases and labels
The Bollweevils release their early minor records on Underdog Records before moving on to Dr. Strange Records, where they issue a number of albums. Their releases include Stick Your Neck Out!, History of the Bollweevils, Part I, Heavyweight, Weevillive, and History of the Bollweevils, Part II. The group also puts out split releases including A Deadly Duo with The Freeze, Plan 7" From Outer Space! with Sleepasaurus, and a split with Doc Hopper.
Activity and later appearances
In the summer of 1993, the band tours across the United States with the Smoking Popes. The Bollweevils later break up when Daryl Wilson finishes medical school and becomes a doctor. Ken Fitzner, also known as Ken Weevil, forms a new band called The Feds. The band later reunites for a show in late 2003 for WLUW, the college radio station at Loyola University Chicago, and returns for further shows at Double Door and at Riot Fest at the Congress Theater, where Naked Raygun headlines. The group also states that it will play again if it gains 1000 friends on its MySpace account, and later says that the Riot Fest reunion is not a one-off and that it is a band again.
Ken Weevil and Fitzner’s Law
Ken Weevil is also identified as the creator of Fitzner’s Law, a rule of thumb associated with Ken Fitzner. The rule says that any song containing the words “Hey” or “Go” is automatically good.
