The Blims

The Blims are a lo-fi group from Wales. The band begins with Martin Dann and Ben Fox, who meet while travelling and share an interest in surfing and nomadic life. Their early line-up grows around that pair and changes over time as members move in and out.

Formation and early activity

After starting with Dann and Fox, the group takes shape with a P.A. system and a drummer known as Aussie Ben. The band spends its early period playing in bars and cafes in France, where it builds live experience before returning to Wales and becoming established on the Bridgend live scene. They play regular shows in places such as Carey's and develop a reputation as a working-class rock band.

Releases and songs

The Blims release their first LP, Death Or Glory, as their initial recorded statement. Among the songs associated with the group are Death or Glory, Chalet Girls, and Rasta's green garden, which becomes part of the band's folklore. Their writing is described as developing alongside their more mature live sound.

Line-up changes

The band expands beyond its original three-piece arrangement. Ben Fox leaves and Mike Ison replaces him on drums.
