The Away Days
The Away Days are an indie rock and shoegaze group from Türkiye. The band forms in 2011 and are active from then to the present. Their sound is described through a mix of dream pop, shoegaze and indie rock, with shimmering guitar work, punchy drums and the distant vocals of lead singer Oguz Can Ozen.
Early releases and recording
The band releases their debut EP, How Did It All Start, in 2012. They also release their first music video track, Galaxies, and later issue the single Your Colour, followed by Paris and Sleep Well. At the time these tracks appear, the group begins work on a debut full-length album.
Live activity and recognition
The Away Days build a reputation through live performances in Türkiye and abroad, including appearances at The Newcomers Festival, SXSW and The Great Escape. They also tour the UK and play alongside artists including Savages, Portishead, Wild Beasts, Paul Banks, Belle & Sebastian and Massive Attack. Their music receives attention from outlets such as NME, Guardian, Clash, SPIN, Noisey and NPR, and gains airplay on BBC 6Music and XFM.
Style
The group are associated with the wider shoegaze and dream pop tradition, with references to Ride and Slowdive in descriptions of their guitar sound. Their work is presented as balancing atmospheric textures with a more direct songwriting approach.
