The Avengers

The Avengers

The Avengers are a rock band from Wellington, New Zealand, active from 1966 to 1969. They release a string of hit singles in New Zealand and become one of the country’s notable 1960s groups, although they achieve less success outside New Zealand and break up after a second tour of Australia.

Career and recordings

The band releases two albums during its career: Electric Recording in 1968 and Medallion in 1969. It also issues a live album in 1968. In 2001, almost all of its studio material is collected on a compilation that also appears under the name Electric Recording.

Notable songs

Its most successful single, Love, Hate, Revenge, reaches number 2 on the New Zealand charts in August 1968. Other songs associated with the group include Be a Caveman, It’s Hard to Hide and its B-side Open Your Eyes.
