The Adelines are a Swansea-based quartet formed in 2011. The group comprises Jennie Morris on vocals and guitar, Anton Dodwell on guitar, Eddie Russell on bass and Ray Thomas on drums. They are active from 2011 to the present.

Style and early development

The Adelines make guitar-led dream pop with ethereal qualities, built around jangly reverb guitars, pop choruses and wall-of-sound textures. Their songs are described as dealing with coming of age and late-night encounters, with bittersweet lyrics that balance directness and innocence.

The band starts out playing house parties in Swansea, where their tom-boyish vocals and warped pop approach draw attention. Their name comes from a next-door neighbour’s cat.

Musical comparisons and influences

Their sound is compared with Juliana Hatfield, The Vaccines and Throwing Muses, although the band describes its influences as coming from life.
