The Achievers

The Achievers is a blues band from Stroud, active since 2013. The group plays songs in a country and folk-influenced style, drawing on writers such as Bob Dylan, Paul Simon, Johnny Cash and JJ Cale. Its repertoire includes original songs in Dutch and English, along with cover versions and old songs from country and folk artists.

Formation and style

The band forms around members with backgrounds in louder local groups, ranging from punk to metal. Two of the members, Dirk on rhythm guitar and Karel on vocals, share an interest in country and folk music and begin developing the project after talking in December 2005. The name comes from a shared interest in The Big Lebowski.

Line-up

After the initial idea is set, the pair records Johnny Cash covers, which receive a positive response from friends and family. Wouter joins on lead guitar and Koen on bass guitar, followed by Veron on drums. Tamar later joins on violin, adding to the melodic side of the group.
