The 502s

The 502s are an American indie folk band from Maitland, Florida, formed by Eddie Isola. Their music is described as a “folk orchestra” and combines elements of roots, rock and bluegrass. The band is also associated with indie and Americana sounds, and its style is often compared with Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, The Avett Brothers and Old Crow Medicine Show.

Line-up and instrumentation

The group begins with Eddie Isola and his cousins, then develops around a rotating cast of musicians. Its longest-standing regular line-up includes Joe Capati on saxophones, Sean Froehlich on drums and percussion, and Nicholas Melashenko on bass guitar. Graci Phillips joins on guitar in 2023.

The 502s are noted for eclectic arrangements that use banjo, piano and horns. Their live performances receive praise for their energetic, stomping style and for the band members’ charismatic stage presence.
