The 1900s
The 1900s are an indie pop and indie rock group from Chicago, United States, active from 2004. The band has two named members, Kristina Dutton and Andra Kulans, and is described as a seven-piece act.
Style and sound
The 1900s use varied arrangements and layered instrumentation to make songs that move between styles, including country, garage rock, and dual male-female vocal harmonies. Their music features strong harmonies alongside vintage keys, piano, strings, guitars and tambourine, with a breezy, full sound. The band is also associated with female vocals and a broad indie rock approach.
Releases and influences
Their release Cold & Kind follows the previous year’s Plume Delivery EP and contains twelve tracks. Their sound is linked with comparisons to Belle & Sebastian, 10,000 Maniacs, Fleetwood Mac, Velvet Underground and Nico, with elements of psych-influenced rock also appearing in their material.
