Tez Kidd
Tez Kidd is a hip hop and southern hip hop artist from New Orleans, United States, born in 1983. He also works under the names T£Z and T£Z Scar Fizza, and is associated with Sqad Up and Tragedy.
Career
He describes himself as the founder and originator of a northern bassline MC movement. He starts out rapping in hip hop before moving into grime, saying that he wants to make music that feels closer to his own life.
He becomes involved in the niche scene at a young age and begins MCing over classic niche tracks at underground events such as Bobby Geez in Sheffield. He says this is well received by audiences from across the north and the Midlands. The Bobby Geez nights, founded by Titchiano between 2001 and 2003, help introduce a mixture of grime and 4x4 tracks and add a darker element to the ravin scene.
He later releases a track called Browninz over a T2-produced beat. It is first played at Sherridanz club in Dewsbury after the closure of the Niche Nightclub and is described as helping to encourage artists to make original tracks over 4x4 rather than only remixing or bootlegging.
Notable activity
Tez Kidd is also featured on Ministry of Sound/Niche’s Soundz of Bassline triple CD. He is presented as one of the leading figures in the scene alongside Jamie Duggan and the Bodr Man Dem, and he plans a mix CD titled The Portfolio.
