Terra Lightfoot

Terra Lightfoot is a folk and indie rock artist from Waterdown, Canada, born in 1986. She works as a solo musician and is also a member of the country band The Dinner Belles, alongside players connected to Monster Truck, Spirits, The Marble Index and Richard Laviolette’s Hollow Hooves. In addition to her own material, she plays guitar and sings backing vocals for Julie Fader’s solo project.

Recording and collaborations

Lightfoot begins work on her debut record with a creation grant from the Ontario Arts Council in 2008. She records on Toronto Island with engineer Dale Morningstar, and the album includes guest appearances by Cam Malcolm on bass, Aaron Goldstein on pedal steel, Adam Melnik on keyboards, Alex McMaster on cello and Pete Hall on drums. Hall also co-produces the record with Morningstar.

Her music is described as folk and indie rock, with references to country work through The Dinner Belles. She cites Don Caballero, Nick Drake, Simon and Garfunkel, Elliott Smith, Etta James, Wilco and Woody Guthrie among her influences. She is also compared to Sarah Harmer, Ani DiFranco, Joni Mitchell and Nick Drake.
