Tei Shi

Tei Shi is the stage name of Valerie Teicher, a singer-songwriter and producer born in Buenos Aires, Argentina in 1990. She is of Colombian background and later lives and works in Los Angeles. Her music draws on shoegaze, indie pop and R&B, and she is associated with indie pop, alternative R&B, synthpop and electropop.

Early life and education

Teicher spends her childhood in Bogotá before her family moves to Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. She later studies at Berklee College of Music in Boston and then moves to New York City.

Releases and collaborations

Tei Shi releases her first singles and music videos in 2013 and makes her first live appearance at CMJ in the same period. Her debut EP, Saudade, appears in 2013. In 2014 she releases the singles “Adder(f)all” and a cover of Beyoncé’s “No Angel”. She also appears as a guest artist on Glass Animals’ track “Holiest”.

Her second EP, Verde, follows in 2015, and her debut album, Crawl Space, is released in 2017. Noisey describes Saudade as a layered record built from melodies, vocal loops and shivery sonics.
