Teebs

Teebs is Mtendere Mandowa, a producer and artist from The Bronx, United States. His work sits in downtempo, glitch hop, hip hop, instrumental hip hop and wonky, and he is also described as a Californian dub and dubstep artist.

Background

Teebs meets Flying Lotus and Samiyam at a 2007 Red Bull Music Academy event in Orange County and later becomes involved with Los Angeles’s Low End Theory scene, where he hears artists including the Gaslamp Killer, Daedelus and Kutmah. An Achilles-tendon injury keeps him from skating for a year, and he uses that time to focus on music.

He later lives with Flying Lotus and Samiyam, absorbing the sounds around him and shaping them into a softer, more atmospheric style. His music is associated with the Brainfeeder orbit and with the experimental electronic scene around Los Angeles.
