Taylor McFerrin

Taylor McFerrin is a United States-born electronic musician, producer and singer whose work sits across jazz, soul, downtempo, funk, nu jazz, r&b, broken beat and instrumental hip-hop. His first recorded appearance is as a background singer on “Jubilee”, a track on his father Bobby McFerrin’s 1982 debut album.

Career

After a series of singles and EPs, McFerrin releases his debut album, Early Riser, on Flying Lotus’s Brainfeeder label in 2014. The album includes guest appearances from Nai Palm of Hiatus Kaiyote, Thundercat, Robert Glasper, Cesar Mariano, Marcus Gilmore and Bobby McFerrin.

He continues to tour as a solo performer and also appears as a duo with jazz drummer Marcus Gilmore. He has also performed alongside Erykah Badu, The Roots, Nas and Talib Kweli.

Collaborations and associated acts

McFerrin’s recorded and live work brings him into contact with a wide circle of jazz and contemporary soul musicians, including Nai Palm, Thundercat, Robert Glasper, Cesar Mariano and Marcus Gilmore. He is also a member of R+R=NOW.
