TAY

TAY is the performing name used by Tiago Amaral, a Portuguese trap and R&B singer and self-taught dancer. He is also described as a dubstep and experimental hip-hop producer from Washington, D.C. The name is used by more than one artist.

Background and work

Born in Portugal, TAY begins posting his own songs on his YouTube channel in 2018. He is associated with the development of Lit Dance in Portugal, a style his fans regard him as having pioneered. He starts production in 2007 and names the London-based label Hyperdub as a label he aims to be signed to.

Recognition and releases

His single Pensa Bem, featuring Dylan, brings him national recognition. The track reaches number one on the trending YouTube page in Portugal and passes 8 million views. His follow-up single, Não Preciso, also featuring Dylan, reaches the top ten of the Portuguese charts. In 2019, he is nominated for Best Portuguese Act at the MTV Europe Music Awards.
