Target

Target is a Belgian technical thrash metal group active in 1988. It forms in April 1986 in Belgium, before later signing to Ralph Hubert’s Aaarrg label in early 1987. The group records a four-track demo in 1987, which Hubert also produces.

Formation and line-up

The band is founded by guitarist Franky van Aerde and drummer Christ Braems. After several line-up changes, the group brings in a new Dutch guitarist, Lex Vogelaar, shortly before recording its debut album. Vogelaar later forms Orphanage.

Recordings

Target records its debut album, Mission Executed, in July and August 1987 at Phoenix Studio in Bochum, West Germany. The group later issues a second album with Steve Gray on vocals. Both albums appear on Aaarrg, and the band splits soon after the second release.

Background

Ralph Hubert’s involvement links Target to the Mekong Delta circle, and the band’s brief history includes management problems and a change in personnel. Vocalist Guy loses interest in making music during the winter of 1987/1988, which contributes to the group’s split.
