Tang
Tang is a French rock band active since 1997. The group forms in France and develops from the French screamo, post-hardcore, hardcore and emotional hardcore scenes, with a sound that also draws on the original emo scene and the noise scene.
Early activity and first recordings
The band forms in autumn 1997 and establishes its first line-up in winter 2000, a period that marks a renewed phase of activity. Tang releases several demos, including a three-track CD distributed as a free release, which attracts attention in France. The band spends time refining its music through practice and by absorbing new influences, while building a live reputation in venues across northern France and Belgium.
Debut album
After touring and playing with many other bands, Tang records its first album at the LB LAB studio of S. Buriez of Loudblast, on the outskirts of Lille. Although several labels show interest in co-production, the album is released independently by Emolution, with distribution handled by Overcome. The record, This Quietness Booms About on the Walls Like Birds in Panic, contains eight tracks and receives a positive response from the press.
Line-up changes and second album
After more than 50 live dates in 2004, Ismaël leaves the band for professional reasons and Sébastien, formerly of Klang! and Shagma, joins on second guitar. Tang then receives financial support from Domaine Musiques, which allows the band to record at Studios Feeling in Tourcoing with David Beckhandt. The mix is completed at Tonteknik Studios in Umeå, Sweden, with Magnus Lindberg of Cult of Luna. The follow-up album, Another Thousand Days, Out of This World, is issued by Emolution and Overcome Distribution.
Shows and support
Alongside recording, Tang gains support from La Marmitte Nord-Pas-de-Calais, which provides a showcase at La Maroquinerie in Paris, and from L’Aéronef in Lille, which offers a week-long residency followed by a showcase for more than 400 fans.
