Taken by the tide is a Nottingham-based metal group from the United Kingdom, active from 2010 to the present. The band works in progressive and technical metalcore, with links to progressive metal and math metal, and is known for combining heavy groove with more complex, experimental ideas. Background

The group forms in Nottingham in early 2009 and develops as a tech-metal act reacting against what it sees as formulaic metalcore riffs and breakdowns. Its approach centres on a mix of progressive structures, technical playing and a grounded, groove-led style.

Release history and style

The debut release, There is no such thing as an atheist in a foxhole, appears on Bad News Records and is due for general and online release in 2010. Commentary on the release describes it as an early EP that already sounds more established than the band's short time together would suggest. It includes film samples and spoken passages, and tracks such as She looks like a dead heat in a zepplin race are noted for their contrast between experimental passages and heavier sections.
