Table

Table is a DJ collective. The name is also used by several other acts, including a Czech experimental, electro and post-punk band; an early 1990s noise rock group from Chicago; a Manchester-based group; and a technical metal and rock band from Kalamazoo, Michigan.

Chicago noise rock band

One version of Table is an early 1990s noise rock band from Chicago, Illinois. The group releases two 7-inch singles before disbanding. Its first single is Gag Box / Unwind, recorded by Steve Albini and issued on the band’s own label, Spangled. Its second 7-inch is Spindrift b/w Vacuum, recorded by Brad Wood and released on Homestead Records in 1993.

A posthumous CD compilation follows in 1995 on Humble Records and collects all eight recorded Table tracks, including the four songs from the two singles and four additional songs. Another song, M.E.G.O., is performed during a live in-studio session on WNUR on 23 May 1992.

The members are Tim Stevens, who plays drums and writes lyrics; Warren Fischer, who plays bass and sometimes sings; and Vito Greco, who sings and plays guitar. Stevens later drummed for Ancient Greeks, Fischer becomes one half of Fischerspooner, and Greco is not in a band.

Manchester-based Table

Another Table is associated with Manchester and records, performs, and makes videos in Hope Mill in Ancoats. Guitarist Aron, who also releases solo material as PettyThief, helps transform a disused mill room into the group’s working space. The project begins after Dave O’Dowda, who has previously played with Scouse band Sizer Barker, starts writing songs for his own voice after wanting to reconnect with Manchester’s music scene.

The group supports artists including James Yorkston, Alela Diane, First Aid Kit and Casiotone for the Painfully Alone, and also appears with Manchester acts including Nancy Elizabeth, Liz Green and Starless and Bible Black. Their debut single is Songs You Can Sing, issued on limited-edition 7-inch vinyl through Humble Soul and Static Caravan.

People associated with Manchester radio and music culture, including Marc Riley, Stuart Maconie and Guy Garvey, take notice of the group.

Other Table acts

A separate Table is a Czech experimental, electro and post-punk band. Another is a technical metal and rock band from Kalamazoo, Michigan, which releases the EP Blank in 1993 before disbanding.
