Sypha

Sypha is an alternative metal and hard rock band from Brighton, UK. The group forms in 2022 and has a four-piece line-up consisting of Alicia Pilling on vocals, Alfred Atkins on guitar, Will Cheesman on bass, and James Anthony on drums. The band has a female-fronted line-up and uses hard riffs, eerie atmospheres and punchy vocals as part of its sound.

Style and influences

Sypha draws on heavy metal and alternative rock influences, taking cues from Avenged Sevenfold, Deftones and Bring Me The Horizon, while also blending melody and edge associated with Blink-182, Halestorm and Marmozets. The band’s debut EP, BORDERLAND, marks a move toward a darker and heavier style. It receives airplay and support from BBC Introducing, Amazing Rock Radio, ERB Radio and Total Rock.

Background and name

Sypha is inspired by the dark fantasy themes of Castlevania and the character Sypha Belnades. Although based in Brighton, the artist is from Ghana.
