Synkro is the recording name of Manchester producer and DJ Joe McBride, who works in dubstep, two-step and ambient music. He is also spelled S.Y.N.K.R.O.
Style and releases
Synkro builds music around dubstep, future garage and UK garage forms, with related work in ambient, bassline, breakbeat, breaks, chillstep and club-oriented electronic music. He releases on his own label, Synkro Musik, and has material associated with labels including Box Clever, Smokin' Sessions, Exit, Autonomic, Brownswood Recordings, Blackout Music, Critical, Warm Communications, Pushing Red and Mindset.
His releases include Reservoir b/w Just Say on Box Clever and Angels VIP b/w Good Loving on Smokin' Sessions. These tracks show a range of tempos, structure and sound within his wider bass music style.
Career and support
Synkro remains active in the wider bass music scene and has played DJ sets in locations including Manchester, Poland, London, Belgium, Cardiff and the USA. His music receives support from artists and broadcasters including dBridge, Instra:mental, ASC, Chris Coco, Gilles Peterson, Brendon Moeller, Mary Anne Hobbs, London Elektricity and Kasra.
Earlier work
Before recording as Synkro, he produces sampled industrial music under the name Pseudo. He first develops that work in South Africa, then moves to Canada in 1999 to pursue an arts career. He later moves towards a more fractured sound as Synkro and releases a self-titled debut album on Sublight Records. A separate artist with the same name works in industrial, breakcore and experimental music.
