Sylvie

Sylvie is a Canadian indie rock band from Regina, Canada, active since 1999. The group consists of singer and guitarist Joel Passmore, guitarist Chris Notenboom, bass player Riva Farrell Racette, keyboardist Erin Passmore and drummer Jeff Romanyk. Joel Passmore previously plays in the band Despistado.

Releases and recording

The band releases its album I Wish I Was Driving through Does Everyone Stare Records. That album receives a nomination for outstanding independent album of the year. In 2005, Sylvie releases An Electric Trace, which is recorded with Juno Award-winning producer Brandon Friesen at Studio 11 in Winnipeg. In 2008, the band releases Trees And Shade Are Our Only Fences on Smallman Records, and it is also the group’s first release with Wednesday Records in the US. The album is recorded with musician and producer J. Robbins at his Baltimore studio and marks the recording debut of Erin Passmore.

Live work and recognition

In 2003, Sylvie receives a nomination at the Western Canadian Music Awards. In 2006, the band tours with controller.controller, and again with Wintersleep and the Ladies and Gentlemen. Later that year it headlines a six-week run with support from Ghosts of Modern Man and From Fiction on the way to Canadian Music Week, where it showcases at the Horseshoe for Chart Magazine Night. In June 2006, the group receives the CBC Galaxie Award on stage at its NXNE showcase.
