Sydney Youngblood is a singer and songwriter from San Antonio, Texas, born Sydney Ford in 1960. He is active in funk and soul, and is associated with pop and dance music through a series of charting singles in the late 1980s and early 1990s.

Career

Youngblood builds his profile around club-oriented songs and cover versions. He has four UK and European top 40 hits across 1988 and 1989, including If Only I Could, Id Rather Go Blind and Sit And Wait. His debut single, If Only I Could, uses the bassline and drum pattern from Raze’s house track Break For Love and reaches number three on the charts. Its chart position is held back by the strong performance of Black Box’s Ride on Time, which is then at number one.

I'd Rather Go Blind, originally recorded by Etta James, receives significant dance-floor play in the United States and reaches the top 10 of the Billboard Dance Charts. Sit 'n' Wait reaches number 15 in the UK in early 1990.
