Sybil is the performing name of Sybil Lynch, an American R&B and pop singer from New Jersey, born in 1965. She records from 1986 and is best known for her cover versions of Dionne Warwick songs, including “Don’t Make Me Over” and “Walk On By”.

Career

Sybil becomes especially successful after signing to the UK production team Stock Aitken Waterman and their PWL label. She is particularly popular in the UK, where she has a run of major dance-pop hits in the early 1990s. Her biggest singles include a West End version of Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes’ “The Love I Lost” and “When I’m Good and Ready”, an original song written by Mike Stock and Pete Waterman after Matt Aitken leaves the team.

Albums and style

Her most successful album is Good n Ready, released in 1993. In the same year she also releases the US album Doin’ It Now. Many of her hits are cover versions of standards, and her work gradually moves from dance music towards soul-pop.
