Sweetpea is a South Korean artist born in 1971, associated with k-rock and indie music, and also known as a drum and bass and jungle DJ and producer based in London. The name covers more than one strand of work: it is used for a solo project by Kim Min Gyu of the Korean band Delispice, and also for a separate DJ and production identity active in the UK club scene.

Music in Korea

In 1998, Kim Min Gyu of Delispice starts a solo project under the name Sweetpea. After the release of the first full-length album neverendingstories, the project develops a distinct identity as a solo artist. Under the Sweetpea name, Kim also establishes the independent label Moonrise, which becomes a recognised indie label. Sweetpea is linked with Pastel Music.

Drum and bass and jungle work

Sweetpea is also active as a DnB and jungle DJ and producer from London, UK. Her work is described as spanning heavy bass selections, rolling grooves, and jungle and hardcore sounds. She releases on respected scene labels and receives support from outlets including DJ Mag, D&BArena, BBC Radio 1, Juno, and Beatport.

She works with labels and imprints including DLR's Sofa Sound, Dispatch, Doc Scott’s 31 Records, AKO Beatz, and Hardcore Energy. She also makes a debut in jungle through releases on AKO Beatz and Hardcore Energy.

Broadcasting and community work

Sweetpea begins by playing on the pirate radio station RudeFM. She later hosts the BBC Radio 1 Drum and Bass Show in 2021 and 2022, and then holds a residency on Rinse FM as part of the KoolFM roster.

She also works in mentoring and education, with a focus on inclusivity and support for underrepresented artists. She is a key figure in the EQ50 collective, which runs yearly mentorships that help artists including Nia Archives and Mandidextrous. In addition, she tutors for Pioneer DJ, WEDJ, and Guildhall University, leading modules, workshops, networking days, and panels.
