Sweetie
Sweetie is a name used by more than one act. One Sweetie is the solo project of D. Knowler, associated with The Infinite Three, Cindytalk and Leisur Hive. It works in noise, ambient and drone, and has existed since the mid-1990s. From 1997 onwards, a run of limited-edition releases appears, including A Bristol Welcome (1999), An Album (2000), The Employment Tapes (2005) and I Can Laugh About It Now But At The Time It Was Really Awful. The album Blackthread comes out in 2009 on Actual Size.
Another Sweetie is a female singer who appears on Angular Recording Corporation’s compilation Rip Off Your Labels: More Angular Product and later records as Japanese Mind Control.
A third Sweetie is a Sydney, Australia act described as a Britpop group. It forms after deciding to stop sitting in the crowd and begin performing, and its songs explore femininity, strength, vulnerability and the tension between those states. Its music combines sudden bursts of sound with quiet passages, ironic lyrics with soft melodies, dreamlike harmonies and energetic expression.
