Sushi

Sushi are an Italian band whose roots lie in the second half of the 1990s, when Alessandro Bavo and Paolo Menegotto spend long periods developing a sound between pop and electronic music. In 1997 the group takes a clearer shape with the addition of Otti, Alessandro Bavo’s younger sister, on vocals. The line-up later includes Rossano Zinico on guitar, Alessandro Bavo on keyboards, Fulvio Bosco on bass and Marco “Ciuski” Barberis on drums.

Career

In 1998 Sushi win the “Indipendenti” competition, which leads to a contract with Mescal. Their debut album, Un leggerissimo disturbo da panico, is produced by Max Casacci and presents a band that is still developing but already notable for its sound and for a strong live presence. After extensive touring and the addition of Barberis and Bosco to the rhythm section, the group records Un mondo terribilmente volgare, which appears at the end of 2001. This release moves toward darker, more pessimistic material, with sounds linked to dark music and a return to the wave music of the early 1980s, while keeping a strong pop element.

In the following years, Sushi continue refining their live set and work with Madaski, sharing several dates with him before releasing the EP Ddt in February 2004 on Mescal. They also compose the soundtrack for the short film PlayGirl, directed by Fabio Tagliavia and featuring Valerio Mastrandrea, Fabio Volo and Daniela Fazzolari.
