Sunny Day Sets Fire is an indie pop group from London, United Kingdom, active between 2005 and 2009. The group forms around Mauro Remiddi, with Onyee, and later includes additional musicians as the lineup changes over time.

Formation and early activity

Mauro, who is from Italy, and Onyee, who is from Hong Kong, meet in London while working as ushers in a cinema. They begin making songs during their breaks and start performing as a duo. The group then takes shape as Sunny Day Sets Fire, with their friend Max, a multi-instrumentalist from Italy, joining them. In December 2004, they begin recording their first demo as a trio.

Releases and lineup changes

Their first single, Brainless, is released in February 2006 on Brikabrak Rec. About a month later, the group adds a new bassist, Ed from the UK, and becomes an official quartet. In 2007, they add another member, Matthew from Canada, on drums, bringing the group to quintet status.

Style and description

The band is described as “an upbeat Postal Service with added trumpets and drums with the volume turned high.” Their sound sits within indie pop, indie, twee, pop and alternative pop.
