Sunburned Hand of the Man

Sunburned Hand of the Man is an experimental group from Boston, United States, active since 1997. It forms from the remnants of the Boston psychedelic punk trio Shit Spangled Banner.

Style and approach

The group works in an improvisational way within a structured framework. Its lineup is amorphous, with composition and instrumentation changing from performance to performance, so no two renditions of a piece are identical and even the titles may differ. The work is associated with acid rock, experimental music, free folk, free improvisation, jam band forms and krautrock, and it is also linked with psychedelic, drone, New Weird America and psych-folk.

Releases and labels

Sunburned Hand of the Man releases records on Eclipse Records and on a range of smaller labels. It also issues a large number of limited-edition CD-R releases through its own Manhand label.
