Summers

Summers are an English rock band from the south coast of England, formed in late 2007 by brothers Crash and Ricky Summers. Their sound sits in glam rock, hard rock, melodic rock and melodic hard rock, and they draw on the stadium rock style associated with bands such as Def Leppard, Mötley Crüe and Aerosmith.

Formation and line-up

During college, guitarist Jason Sepala and lead vocalist Crash become friends through a shared interest in rock music. Jason’s playing becomes a bigger part of the project later, when the band starts taking shape. After the initial trio begins gigging, producer Clyde Ward gets involved and adds songwriting support, stage-show direction, lighting and visual ideas. Ward has previously worked with Eric Clapton, Lenny Kravitz, George Michael and Sting.

In early 2008, Andy Pope joins on drums after hearing a demo in a studio while he is in Sweden with the Cockney Rejects. Ricky Summers also works as a producer for local musicians in his spare time, and through that work he discovers guitarist Sam Hickling and brings him into the band, completing the line-up.

Music and activity

Summers focus on melody-driven rock with twin-guitar riffs, strong vocal harmonies and memorable choruses. Their songs are presented as hard-hitting rock music with an 1980s-influenced feel, while the band also emphasises an energetic stage show. They build an audience along the South Coast of England and play full venues there.

The band begins recording its debut album in Cyprus, with the record intended to carry their heavier sound while keeping their established style. They are also filmed by BBC Access All Areas for a forthcoming television show. Reviews and comments attached to the band describe them as a classic rock act with a future in the genre.
