Subsource
Subsource is a UK electronic rock group that combines punk, dubstep, drum and bass, metal and electronic glitches into a live beat-and-bass sound. The act develops a reputation for high-energy performances that draw on the aggression of punk and metal alongside bass-heavy dance music. Its audience includes both club and rock crowds, with the group described as making ravers dance and rock fans headbang.
Style and live work
The group’s sound features snarling punk vocals, heavy sub-bass, fast drum and bass rhythms and distorted electronic textures. It performs as a live punk rock act built around bass music and is active on the touring circuit, including dates as far afield as China and across Europe.
Recordings and projects
Subsource also releases remix material and mash-up style versions of other artists’ songs through its Resmashed series. This includes refixes of Testify by Rage Against the Machine, Breed by Nirvana and Toxicity by System of a Down. The group is also known for the DJ Fuckstep Mix series, which blends punk, rock and metal with contemporary bass music tracks.
Media and collaborations
The group’s music appears on mainstream and pirate radio, and it is used in video games and television. It also completes Subsource – A Dubumentary, a film about the challenges of developing an underground band while touring across Europe, and the film tours festivals. Subsource supports acts including Skindred, Sonic Boom Six, Enter Shikari, Dizzie Rascal, Example and Dreadzone, and works in studio sessions with Far Too Loud, Jurassic 5 and The Prodigy.
Recognition
Subsource receives award nominations for festival performances, and its work attracts attention from figures including Eddy Temple Morris and Liam Howlett, who comment positively on the group’s sound and vocals.
