Subrosa5

Subrosa5 are a six-piece band from the Thames Valley who play mod-influenced power pop with elements of 1960s psychedelia and blues. The group’s members are Jon Dickinson, Doug Peters, Neil Peters, Andy “Duke” Boothroyd, Martin Pratt and Tony Bradford.

Style and influences

The band begins with an early-1990s shoegaze influence, with Ride and Catherine Wheel among the names associated with that period of inspiration. Their sound also draws on new wave, mod and psychedelia, with references including Arthur Lee, The Doors, The Jam and The Soundtrack of Our Lives.

Recordings

Subrosa5 release the All My Life EP in 2006, followed by the Hellfire Raves album in 2009. Both recordings are produced by the late Rich Haines, who is also associated with Radiohead and Supergrass.

Live work and festival

The band gig extensively and perform with artists including Mark Gardener of Ride, Tim Burgess of the Charlatans, Proud Mary, Simon Townsend and Roger Daltrey. They also curate their own underground festival, The Hellfire Raves, held at the Hellfire Club in West Wycombe.
