Sublime with Rome

Sublime with Rome is a group from Long Beach, United States, formed in 2009. It brings together Eric Wilson and Bud Gaugh of Sublime with vocalist and guitarist Rome Ramirez. The project starts as a way for Wilson and Gaugh to perform classic Sublime material, and then develops into an act that also plays original songs.

Formation and early performances

The group’s first performance takes place in February 2009 near Bud Gaugh’s home in Nevada. Later that year, it appears at Cypress Hill’s Smokeout Festival in San Bernardino. The band then begins its first US tour in 2010.

Albums and releases

After a positive response on tour, Sublime with Rome releases its debut album on Fueled By Ramen in 2011. Its second album, Sirens, follows in 2015 and includes a title-track collaboration with Dirty Heads. In 2019, the group releases Blessings, which includes the singles “Wicked Heart” and “Blackout”.

The band’s final self-titled album appears in 2024. It includes the final single “Love Is Dangerous”, the four tracks from the Tangerine Skies EP, and five new songs.

Line-up changes

Bud Gaugh leaves the group in 2011 and is replaced by Josh Freese. In 2017, Carlos Verdugo, known for playing with The Tribal Seeds, replaces Freese. Jason Vick briefly fills the drum position in 2023, before Joe Tomino becomes Carlos Verdugo’s official replacement. In 2024, Eric Wilson announces that he is no longer a member of the group.

Later years

In 2019, Sublime with Rome performs with Post Malone and releases a cover of his song “Goodbyes”. In 2024, the group announces a farewell tour and plans for a final album, and it ends activity after the tour. Rome Ramirez later announces plans for solo music, while Eric Wilson and Bud Gaugh continue performing with Jakob Nowell as Sublime.

The group is associated with alternative rock, dub, hip hop and reggae, and is also tagged with ska, ska punk and rock.
