Subajah

Subajah is a reggae artist who begins his music career in rap as a member of the French underground group Ineffekt. He also works with French rapper Fredy K. He later moves into reggae and sound system music, and since 2003 he is a member of Kultcha Militant Sound, a French sound system with three other singjays: Supa Dona, Desta and Subajah, together with selecta Greendelroy. He describes the group as a family and says it gives him the positivity he feels in music.

Style and outlook

Subajah identifies as a Rastafarian and describes Rastafarianism as a livity rather than a religion, with two aspects: spiritualism and culture. His music is built around a mystical and poetic approach, using acoustic and simple arrangements that focus on emotion. He also believes in unity and equality between all people.

Work and approach

His first album is Hope Chant, which is described as lyrically breaking the system's chains. He later introduces guitar into his music and expands his style into what he calls “larm kréyol” or “Kreyol tear”, a term he uses because he sees music as a heart’s tear. He lives in the UK.
