Stuck Mojo

Stuck Mojo is an Atlanta, United States-based rap metal group that forms in 1989. The group’s line-up includes Rich Ward, Will Hunt, Bonz and Sean Delson, and it is associated with alternative metal, jazz, metal, rap metal and rapcore.

Career

The band is formed by guitarist Rich Ward and original bassist Dwayne Fowler, with lead vocalist Bonz joining later in the same year. Its first album, Snappin' Necks, is released in 1995 on Century Media Records. The following year the band issues Pigwalk, produced by Devin Townsend, with new bassist Corey Lowery and drummer Bud Fontseré.

Stuck Mojo gains wider attention with its third album, Rising. The album sells more than 50,000 copies and remains Century Media’s best-selling album until 2004, when Comalies by Lacuna Coil passes it. The album also reflects the band’s interest in professional wrestling: the World Championship Wrestling U.S. Heavyweight Championship belt appears on the cover, and the video for “Rising” features Diamond Dallas Page and Raven.

Later activity and associated acts

Despite strong reviews and sales for later releases, Stuck Mojo breaks up in 2001 but continues to play New Year’s Eve reunion shows at the Masquerade Club in Atlanta. Bonz later joins 420 Monks and Dead Gospel. Ward, Fontseré and former bassist Dan Dryden join Fozzy, the band led by WWE wrestler Chris Jericho, and also play in Sick Speed. Corey Lowery later joins Life of Agony, Stereomud and Dark New Day. Rich Ward also releases a solo album under the name The Duke.

Reunion and status

The band reunites in 2005 with Bonz, Ward and Fontseré returning and Sean Delson replacing Dan Dryden on bass. Stuck Mojo is regarded as an early nu metal act and as an influence on later nu metal groups.
