Stromae

Stromae is the stage name of Paul Van Haver, a Belgian musician, producer, singer, rapper and songwriter. He is born in 1985 and comes from Etterbeek, Belgium. He is known for working across electronic and hip hop-influenced styles, and his music is associated with art pop, dance-pop, electro house, electropop and hip house.

Background

He is born to a Rwandan father, Pierre Rutare, and a Belgian mother, Miranda Marie Van Haver. He is originally from Laeken in Brussels and uses the name Stromae as his professional identity.

Career

Stromae first draws broad public attention in 2009 with Alors on danse, which reaches number one in several European countries. His second album, Racine carrée, is a major commercial success and sells 2 million copies in France and nearly 600,000 units elsewhere. He has sold over 8.5 million records worldwide.
