Stormbringer

Stormbringer is a group name used by several different acts in heavy metal and related styles. The name appears in connection with deathgrind, black/thrash, hard rock, melodic hard rock, power metal, doom metal, epic metal, and black metal.

Flagstaff deathgrind trio

One version of Stormbringer is an antagonistic deathgrind three-piece from Flagstaff, Arizona, active from 2011. Its releases include Stormbringer EP from 2015, Apocalyptic Awakening from 2016, and the demo Remnants Of A Vile Existence from 2017.

California USBM band

Another Stormbringer is a US black metal band from California. It releases one album, Abandon Hope, which appears in 1999, and its sound incorporates black/thrash influences.

Northamptonshire hard rock band

A further Stormbringer is a hard rock band from Northamptonshire in the UK, formed in 2011 and signed to Transcend Music by 2013. It performs at the Ronnie James Dio stage at Bloodstock Open Air in 2013, and its debut album is scheduled for release in that period.

Swiss melodic hard rock quintet

Stormbringer is also the name of a Swiss quintet formed in 1984 by Dave Barreto on vocals, Angi Schiliro on guitar, Fabian Emmenger on keyboards, Urs Hufschmid on bass, and Laurie Chiundinelli on drums. The group takes its name from Deep Purple’s 1974 album Stormbringer and specialises in melodic hard rock. After the album Stormbringer is released, the band splits up soon afterwards. Schiliro later plays with China for a short time before starting his own band.

The name also appears for a Hellenic R.A.C. band active in the 1990s, an 1980s Swedish metal band associated with the song “Voodoo Night” on METAL KNIGHTS - The Resurgence Of Swedish Steel (1983-1985), a Paul Burnley RAC band that releases Hammer of the Gods, and an American power metal band from Rockford, Illinois that issues the demo Stealer of Souls in 1993 and a self-titled EP in 1994.
